Terra Ingredients pioneers Fonio seed pilot program in Senegal

Terra Ingredients has launched a partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture in Sedhiou, a small town in the Southern region Casamance. The fonio seed pilot project was initiated in five villages in the area. The harvest will start in December 2021.

Terra Ingredients sponsored the seed stock for area farmers and committed to buying available excess crops.  The purpose of the pilot project is to provide distribution channels to a region that has historically suffered from a lack of economic activity due to a conflict between the central government and rebel groups that peaked in the 1990s and early 2000s and insufficient infrastructure investments.

Terra Ingredients operates with a long-term focus. We build lasting partnerships with communities such as Sedhiou in an effort to create tangible economic opportunities for fonio growers in the region.
