Beer lovers, gather around because we have a fantastic story. Wolf & Warrior Brewing Company, a microbrewery located in New York, reached out to us at Terra Ingredients to collaborate on a beer using the ancient grain fonio. It was a no-brainer for us to work together, and the result was outstanding. The beer, named “Andes to Africa Golden Ale with Fonio,” has a unique flavor that we can’t wait for you to try.

This is a first for Terra Ingredients! Our team at Terra Ingredients worked closely with Wolf & Warrior Brewing Company to ensure that the fonio used in the beer was of the highest quality. Fonio is a tiny grain that is gluten-free, nutrient-rich and has a nutty flavor. We wanted to make sure that these characteristics were enhanced in the beer, so we carefully selected the fonio while Mike Chiltern co-created the perfect recipe with Kevin Bradford at Harlem Hops and Darren Mosley, a talented artist, created the unique label.

Mike Chiltern, the owner and brewer of Wolf & Warrior Brewing Company had a specific reason for wanting to use fonio in the beer. He said, “As an innovative brewer, always on the hunt for new and exciting ingredients, coming across Fonio was absolutely amazing! It adds a nice nuttiness to our Golden Ale, plus a pinch of extra refreshing bitterness. It enables us to use a bit less barley, and it’s a sustainable drought-resistant crop. The upside of using Fonio in beer is excellent. Having studied abroad in Zimbabwe in 1998, I fell forever in love with “The Continent,” as Africa is sometimes referred to. Brewing a beer here in New York with an ancient African grain was a welcomed return to those rich African vibes for me.”

The collaboration between Wolf & Warrior Brewing Company and Terra Ingredients has been a success. “Andes to Africa Golden Ale with Fonio” is a delicious beer that represents the history and culture of West Africa. We’re excited to continue working with Wolf & Warrior Brewing Company and other breweries to create unique beers that incorporate ancient grains. Cheers to good beer and great collaborations!
